Supporting the Future of Mining: Worthy Engineering Joins Forces with NSMS for Apprentice Training

Home | Blogs | Supporting the Future of Mining: Worthy Engineering Joins Forces with NSMS for Apprentice Training

Spread the love

At Worthy Engineering, we’re proud to stand behind initiatives that build stronger futures — not just for our industry, but for the communities we call home. That’s why we were honoured to donate our Sandblasting and Painting services to help refurbish a Sandvik LH517i underground loader, in collaboration with Northern Star Mining Services (NSMS).

The machine has now been officially handed over to Central Regional TAFE Kalgoorlie, where it will serve as a cutting-edge training tool for apprentices across the Goldfields. With modern mining equipment increasingly complex and highly automated, this LH517i will offer apprentices hands-on experience with the same technology they’ll encounter in the field — boosting their confidence, knowledge, and employability.

Local Industry Backing Local Training

This project was made possible by the leadership of NSMS, who generously donated the Sandvik LH517i to TAFE. Their commitment to local skills development is commendable and reflects a shared vision we hold dear — investing in the future workforce.

But this was more than a single donation. NSMS brought together a coalition of local service providers to restore the machine to working order. Alongside Worthy Engineering, the project saw support from:
• Statewest Group (SWG)
• Dynamic Maintenance Services (DMS)
• Hydramech
• ATS

It’s a shining example of what’s possible when Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s mining services sector pulls together with a common goal: empowering the next generation of tradespeople.

Worthy Engineering’s Role

Our contribution involved a complete sandblast and professional paint job on the LH517i. The result wasn’t just cosmetic — a freshly finished machine creates a positive first impression and helps build pride among students learning the ropes.

As a company built in the Goldfields, we understand the value of apprenticeships. Many of our own team members started their careers in local TAFE workshops just like the one receiving this equipment. Supporting this initiative means giving back to a system that has long delivered capable, job-ready workers to our region.

A Future-Focused Investment

This collaboration goes beyond a one-off donation. It represents an ongoing commitment from local industry to support education, training, and innovation right here in regional WA. Together with NSMS and our fellow contributors, Worthy Engineering is proud to invest in homegrown talent and ensure the Goldfields remains a leader in mining excellence.
We’d like to thank NSMS for spearheading this initiative and congratulate Central Regional TAFE Kalgoorlie on receiving such a valuable addition to their training resources.
Let’s keep building a stronger, smarter future — together.
